"I have always been drawn to cemeteries, and all the history and stories they hold within them. I started tracing my family tree and with that, visiting and documenting where my ancestors were buried. During my visits I would also take photos of interesting graves and research the stories behind the people buried in that grave. In doing this I have come across some amazing stories – from the tragic death of two popular theatrical artists from the 1920s, to a diver who rescued a miner in 1907 who had been entombed for 10 days in a flooded gold mine, to the story of the 1920s underworld queen named Lizzie O’Dea. I have researched family trees for many people, compiling the information into books for them, and also fulfilled hundreds of photo requests through Find-a-Grave for people from all over the world, seeking the final resting place of an ancestor or loved one.“

“I have always been interested in cemeteries, in particular, their historical values. I became an ‘accidental’ cemetery conservator when I discovered that the cemetery in the Cook Islands where my mother is interred was washing out to sea. In 2016, I was told that a large number of Cook Islands NZEF WWI veterans were buried in the jungle beside the area where my mother's grave is located. This was the beginning of the Cook Islands Military History Research Project. Since 2016 and with financial support from Cook Islands sponsors, our team have been travelling throughout the islands GPS’ing and documenting these veterans’ burial places. The collated information has been added to our website, Cook Islands Online Cenotaph. In 2022, I completed the Graduate Certificate of Cemetery Practice through Deakin University, and received a Deakin Scholarship for Excellence based on my voluntary work in the Cook Islands and Brisbane. We have now successfully relettered hundreds of granite headstones in the Cook Islands and Australia following best practice conservator techniques.”
