Veterans' Descendants

Help Us Honour Unmarked WWI Graves

​As part of an ongoing project to recognise World War One veterans buried in unmarked graves, we are working to identify and connect with their descendants. This is an important step that allows the Office of Australian War Graves (OAWG) to offer official commemoration to families of eligible veterans.

​

For those veterans who do not meet the eligibility criteria for official commemoration, we will seek grant funding to place a commemorative plaque on their grave. Where descendants can be contacted, families will be given the opportunity to add a personal inscription in honour of their ancestor.

 

Are You a Descendant of a WWI Veteran in an Unmarked Grave?

If you believe a relative of yours who served during WWI for Australia — perhaps a great-grandparent, uncle, or great-aunt — is buried in an unmarked grave, we’d love to hear from you.

Many of the veterans we're researching had no children, so we are also tracing descendants of siblings or extended family members. Every connection matters and can help ensure these veterans are remembered with the dignity they deserve.
